About the Project
D. Patton White of Beacon Dance presents a site-specific performance in Atlanta that responds to the river systems shaping this landscape. The work examines how water has sculpted local topography and how humans have attempted to control that process.
Why We Dance
We perform to call attention to the need to minimize the amount of toxins that are released into the tributaries to the South River. The performance traces the hydrological path from the South River to the Ocmulgee River, onward to the Altamaha River, and finally to the Atlantic Ocean, foregrounding how contamination travels through connected waterways.
Collaborators
This project includes contributions from Susan Keller, Onur Topal-Sumer and others, working with Beacon Dance to integrate movement, site history, and environmental concern.
Location & Ancestral Land
The performance takes place in Atlanta, GA, on the ancestral land of Perkerson Park. The choreography engages with the site’s history and its relationship to surrounding water systems.
