With the support of the Dade Heritage Trust, NWD Projects and Girl Trek Overtown are building bridges with “A Walk Through Our Neighborhoods”, an environmental performance project created from a series of neighborhood walks. Each walk is unique and guided by a resident who chooses the focus for that neighborhood. Within that focus, we will include the influence of Black and minority residents who forged the shape of the community, as well as the environmental issues reshaping its future. Our goal is to walk as many neighborhoods in Miami-Dade County as possible.
“Because of this day, and all the people I shared it with, I feel the imprint of Brownsville on my body and my psyche. I may forget a name or a fact but I won’t forget Brownsville.” – Participant of the Brownsville Walk.
The Brownsville walk was guided by Gary Allen, honoring the extraordinary work of community icon Dr. Enid C. Pinkney. (October 15, 1931 – July 18, 2024)
