About the Project

Kate Blair (with Marrisha Hyatte-Devereueawax and Julie Uram) presents a site-specific dance at Sinnissippi Waterfront Park in Rockford, Illinois. The work seeks to connect more deeply with the water within and around us and with each other, in a spirit of care, wonder, learning, healing, and hope.

Site & Ancestral Land

The performance takes place along the Sinnissippi / Rock River, a river course that has nourished people and animals for over 300,000 years and remains a vital community path for walking, biking, and movement.

Why: Water Issues and Intentions

The project responds to the reality that the river is polluted with trash and man-made chemicals. Through dance the artists aim to honor ancestral connections, Native water-honoring rhythms, and to invite renewed care, reverence, and healing for the waters and the community.

Collaborators and Support

The team acknowledges the support of the Rockford Park District, which assisted with the special use permit, insurance, and logistical support to present the project in a park district area.
