Project Overview
Under the direction of Rebecca Cannan of Arkansas Arts Academy HS, this site-specific work engages with the history and present of Lake Atalanta in Rogers, AR. The choreography explores the lake’s role as a former community gathering place and water source for the city.
Water Heritage and Site Context
Lake Atalanta was once a thriving local community gathering space and provided water for the entire city of Rogers for many years. As development progressed, the site lost its central role and is no longer the source of water for the city of Rogers. Today the lake and surrounding natural land function as a city park and are regaining appeal as a gathering area for families to enjoy the lake and surrounding nature trails.
