Project Overview
Alex St-Onge with collaborators Clara Chemtov, Wai Liu, Katherine Mackenzie, and Annie Spence present site-specific choreography at the Scarborough Bluffs in Toronto, Ontario. The work engages the landscape and its histories while foregrounding environmental concerns.
Artistic Approach
The choreography for this piece was developed through conversation and research related to the formation of the bluffs, and the relationship between the Indigenous care-takers of the land and the water of Lake Ontario (both traditionally and presently). Movement and composition respond to geological features and shoreline conditions.
Environmental Focus
This project highlights the natural beauty of the site while drawing attention to the pressing issues of erosion at the bluffs and the greater impact of human activity on water quality in Lake Ontario. The performance aims to raise awareness and invite reflection on stewardship of the shoreline.
