About the Performance
Lisa Chow of Desert Dance Theatre & Community Dancers presents a site-specific performance at Mesa Riverview Park in Mesa. The piece carries the mantra Dancing for Water… Dancing for Life… Dancing for Our Future.
Water Issues
Arizona faces a critical water crisis driven by a 20+ year megadrought, over-allocation of the Colorado River, and rapid groundwater depletion. Significant cuts to Colorado River supplies (Tier 1 shortages) are reducing agricultural and central project water, while excessive pumping is causing wells to run dry and land to subside. Central Arizona Project – CAP is a central actor in regional water delivery.
What is Being Done
Local and state efforts emphasize conservation and policy change: residents are urged to adopt water-saving habits and xeriscaping; the Governor’s Resiliency Office focuses on securing water supplies and long-term drought management; and policymakers are working to tighten regulation on groundwater pumping and improve agricultural efficiency.
