From leading the Historic Hampton House to national prominence to championing overlooked Miami neighborhoods, Jacqui has dedicated her life to preserving history and building stronger communities.

With the support of the Dade Heritage Trust, NWD Projects, and Girl Trek Overtown, are building bridges with “A Walk Through Our Neighborhoods”. Each walk is unique and guided by a resident who chooses the neighborhood’s focus, including the influence of Black and minority residents who shaped the community, as well as the environmental issues reshaping its future. Begun in 2023, we continue through the 2026 season, forging bonds and walking through as many neighborhoods in Miami-Dade County as possible.

Brownsville

“Because of this day, and all the people I shared it with, I feel the imprint of Brownsville on my body and my psyche. I may forget a name or a fact but I won’t forget Brownsville.”  – Participant of the Brownsville Walk.

The Brownsville walk was guided by Gary Allen, honoring the extraordinary work of community icon Dr. Enid C. Pinkney. (October 15, 1931 – July 18, 2024)

As we join together our collective history & legacy, we endeavor to honor our “beloved Miami community” by celebrating our differences and interconnectedness.
