National Water Dance 2024: A Global Movement for Earth Day at Crandon Park

National Water Dance (NWD) is returning this Earth Day weekend to inspire environmental action through the power of movement and art. On April 20, 2024, Crandon Park’s Biscayne Nature Center will be one of 72 locations across the United States participating in this nationwide event, themed “Moving Forward Together.”

A Unified Dance Across the Nation

National Water Dance brings together dancers, musicians, and communities from coast to coast. Performances at each location are synchronized to begin and end with the same movement sequence, symbolizing unity and collective action for environmental and social justice.

At Crandon Park, local dance groups including Olujimi Dance Collective, Dance Now! Miami, Karen Peterson & Dancers, and Jubilation Dance Ensemble will lead the celebration. These groups will perform alongside community members in a site-specific event designed to deepen our connection to nature.

A Full Day of Environmental Engagement

The Miami event will include more than just captivating performances. Attendees can enjoy:

  • Dream In Green’s Eco-Summit with student-created eco-art projects.
  • A beach clean-up hosted by Debris Free Oceans, inviting everyone to take direct action for the environment.
  • A relaxing sunset happy hour in the coral courtyard to close the day.

Dale Andree, the founder of National Water Dance, emphasizes the event’s purpose: “We want to bring attention to the environment, but also to ourselves as part of the environment. The only way forward is to work together.”

Join the Movement

Whether you attend in person at Crandon Park or watch livestreams of performances nationwide, National Water Dance is an opportunity to unite with communities across the country and reflect on the importance of protecting our planet.
