Overview

The Cause

The work centers on the James River, acknowledging its recovery from past pollution while highlighting ongoing threats: industrial waste, sewage issues, habitat loss, and climate change. The project emphasizes the need for clean, accessible drinking water and connects human impacts to growing energy demands from data centers and A.I.; currently, Virginia hosts the most data centers in the United States.

Collaborators

On campus collaboration includes the Powell Institute of Responsible Citizenship and coordination with the director of Sustainability, Sandra Marr, supporting educational and civic goals.

Performance Details

Site location: Richmond, VA on ancestral land along the James River (private location). Students and faculty use dance to inform peers about environmental concerns and to demonstrate how art can bring communities together to mitigate human impacts of climate change.
