About the Project

Christine Little of The Spiral Dance Collective presents a choreographic response rooted in the ancestral land of the Sheepscot River, Head of Tide in Alna, Maine. The work honors local communities who rely on the river for livelihood and recreation while reflecting on the river’s ecological significance.

Water Issues and Why It Matters

The banks of the Sheepscot River support community life and host remnant populations of the nearly extinct native Atlantic salmon. Recent removal of a local dam has contributed to recovery, yet the watershed faces threats including bank erosion, elevated temperatures, and various sources of pollution. The project frames the river as both a source of hope and a call for continued care.
