Monica Ellison — National Water Dance in Chattanooga, TN

Event & Location

Led by Monica Ellison as part of the National Water Dance, this site gathers performers at Renaissance Park along the Tennessee River in Chattanooga, TN. The gathering honors the river that shapes local life and landscape.

Purpose & Themes

We are dancing to build community within our local dance scene and to create space for joy, play, and connection. Through movement we both celebrate and bring attention to the vital role of water, highlighting concerns such as water quality, pollution, and the impacts of heavy rainfall and flooding.

Choreography & Influence of Water

Choreography is informed by the movement and presence of the river: the flow, the swell, and the force of water. Our work reflects that duality—its power and its sustenance—and expresses a shared responsibility to care for the waterways that support our community.

Collaborators & Community

This project brings together local artists and organizations including GPS Terpsichord, Ann Law and Dancers, v1s10n and Zil, Capoeira Chattanooga, Monica Ellison, and Art To Empower. Together they emphasize both celebration and stewardship.
