About the Project

Susan Barnard of Blue Ridge Dance and Somatics develops a site-responsive dance and somatic practice in Stanardsville VA that centers embodied attention to local waterways and habitat.

Location and Ancestral Land

The work takes place on land traditionally associated with Greene Mountain Lake, acknowledging the ancestral context of the site and its ecological history.

Water Concerns

This project foregrounds the issue of lower water levels and the consequences they bring to the area, including impacts on local fish and birds. The creative exploration aims to make visible how changing water conditions alter habitat and community relationships.

Collaborators

Working alongside June Battaile, Roberta Cook, Lauren Hamilton, Lisa Lefferts, Scott Smith, and Susan Barnard, the project combines dance, somatics and site inquiry.
